Base molds are specially designed for use with VWR Signature tissue processing/embedding cassettes (see 18000-004 series) and VWR biopsy processing/embedding cassettes (see 18000-032 series), but may be used with any standard size cassette. These molds feature higher sides to allow optimum paraffin volume during embedding, dramatically reducing excess paraffin on the sides of embedded cassette blocks. Reusable stainless steel molds have wings to ensure level embedding and a polished surface that allows for easy block removal and cleaning. Disposable base molds are constructed of rigid plastic and designed for zero flash. They are molded for a tight fit around the cassette, preventing excess paraffin from adhering to the sides of the cassette. The positive lock ensures consistent and level embedding, while the breakaway latch allows for easy block removal. The crisp sides of the mold aid in sectioning and section ribboning. Available in rigid plastic or stainless steel formats, these molds are designed for easy removal of contents.
