This pair of industrial suction cups (3.25 inch dia.) features handles and release stubs, also known as Magdeburg Hemispheres. They have a 100 newton (22lbs) separation force, demonstrating the power of air pressure without the need for a vacuum pump. In this modern adaptation of a famous 17th-century experiment, students place the edges of two hemisphere cups together and squeeze them, forcing out the air between them. Then, in a tug-of-war style challenge, students attempt to pull the cups apart, finding it a surprisingly difficult task. Each of the 7.5 cm diameter rubber hemispheres is equipped with a 2-finger tug handle and 2 release posts.
