Binds to proteins and acts as a chaperone in protein folding. Incorporates into hiv-1 virons and is believed to be essential for viral infectivity. Cyclophilin binds to the immunosuppressant cyclosporin a (cat. No. 239835). This complex then binds calcineurin (pp2b) and inhibits its phosphatase activity.
