Potently inhibits serine palmitoyltransferase (spt; ki = 280 pm) thereby blocking the synthesis of ceramide. Disrupts substratum adhesion of melanoma cells. Inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in il-2 dependent murine cytotoxic t lymphocyte cell line ctll-2.
