Specifications Pure ethyl alcohol is a non-denatured 200proof ethanol. Ethanol, a primary alcohol, is an important raw material for the synthesis of various compounds. It can be synthesized either from molasses by fermentation or by hydration of ethylene. It acts as a hydrogen source and reaction medium during the transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The impact of ethanol/water fumigation on the performance of diesel engines has been studied. Anhydrous grade solvents show extremely low percentage water and low residue levels.Synonyms: Ethanol; absolute alcohol; non-denatured ethanolMolecular Formula: C2H6OMolecular Weight: 46.07Linear Structural Formula: CH3CH2OHMDL Number: MFCD00003568Purity: >=99.5%Melting Point: -114 CDensity: 0.789 g/mL at 20 CApplication: Ethanol has been used: •as a solvent for lovastatin. •as a solvent during the synthesis of (S)-4-hydroxy-2-keto-4-(2′-pyridyl)butyrate. •to fix tissue sections on a slide during laser capture microdissection (LCM).Legal Information: Pure-Pac is a registered trademark of Sigma-Aldrich Co.
