This apparatus is designed for studying acceleration by gravity. A steel ball is suspended with an electromagnet, which when turned off, plummets toward the platform on to a landing pad. During its descent (or "free fall"), the only force acting on the ball is the force of gravity. This apparatus allows the small drag from air resistance on the steel to be measured. Column with scale measures 47" tall.
