Details:
This apparatus is designed to study acceleration due to gravity. A steel ball is suspended by an electromagnet, which, when turned off, plummets towards the platform onto a landing pad. During its descent (or "free fall"), the only force acting on the ball is gravity. This apparatus allows for the measurement of the small drag caused by air resistance on the steel ball. The column with scale measures 47 inches tall.
