Specimens are incubated with the fitc conjugated reagents for 15 minutes. Excess reagent is then removed by washing with phosphate-buffered saline (pbs). The stained areas are mounted and viewed using epifluorescence illumination. If parainfluenza virus types 1, 2, or 3 are present then characteristic apple-green intracellular fluorescence is seen within infected cells, which contrasts with the red background staining of uninfected cells.Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
