The grinding vessel, a round bottom tube with 2 mm wall, has grinding chamber made of precision bore tubing and top reservoir with pouring spout, to accommodate displaced fluid. Unground walls are completely transparent. Pestle is rounded to conform to bottom of grinding chamber and is either serrated radially or smooth. These serrations expedite initial passage of tissue into the grinding interface. The smooth tip is preferred by some users for mouse spleen and liver. The pestle shaft is 178 mm ling, 4 mm diamter in sizes O and AA, 6 mm in larger sizes, for insertion into the chuck of a suitable slow speed stirrer or connection to the drive shaft by a piece of heavy wall rubber tubing. In use, the grinding vessel is held in the hand and slowly moved up and down over the rotating pestle. Stirrer rotation must be clockwise as viewed from above.NOTE: for suitable slow speed stirrer, see Thomas Tissue Grinder Drive, number 3431J70.
