Capecitabine is an antifolate anticancer chemotherapeutic that acts as a prodrug of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), a fluoropyrimidine carbamate that inhibits thymidylate synthase. Capecitabine is converted to 5-FU by thymidine phosphorylase in vivo.
